Hi Everyone!
I was hoping to get a discussion started regarding your upcoming Leaf Pack workshops. I thought you could share with one another ideas on recruiting people to the workshop or maybe you developed a flyer and you can share it with us by uploading it here, etc. Please share with us any steps you are taking to implement the workshop. This way you can all get ideas from one another. Thank you!
Several of you have already set up workshops and are preparing for them. Very exciting news! Let me just share a couple of them with you. Great news, everyone!
Licia (Peru): Now I am working in a new idea, I am designing and elaborating a new Environmental Education Program and it to be maintenance through of the time like our program “De la Escuela al Jardin”. This new program will be inspired in the leaf Pack Stroud workshop and the Tropical rainforest streams ecology. In like manner, It will include a Manual for the teachers and a Field book for the students. In these workshops will participate students and teachers leaders of the Ecology clubs of Pto. Maldonado schools, so we will use ATI all the year!: the stream and the field laboratory. First Leaf Pack ACEER wokshop ( 2009 February): Into the first activities of this Program will be include the Leaf Pack workshop on February; this workshop will be for the ecological club school teacher leaders, some Pto. Maldonado leaders (authorities) and Inkaterra guides.
Quint (USA - Georgia): Quint will be working with Gabby and Manrique (Costa Rica)! Quint is coordinating an activity with a big program that's heading to Costa Rica called Leadership Georgia. From June 10-14, ~140 community leaders from around the state of Georgia (includes many CEOs, foundation directors, county commissioners, etc.) will all be descending on the northwestern region of Costa Rica for 3 days of activities looking at EcoTourism, Education, Energy, and Global Environmental Leadership. I've convinced the people putting on the program that a Leaf Pack activity would be a perfect thing to do with a small group (~18-20 people) one afternoon as an example of environmental education and outreach and institutional cooperation within Costa Rica (UGA Costa Rica, EARTH, Guanacaste National Parks and others are all collaborating on this as ambassadors for a bigger international project...). They're intrigued by the whole concept of "bio-literacy" that Gaby does with the Parks System, and the Leaf Pack activity is one great example to show how we are all bringing bio-literacy to our communities as well as contributing to an international education and monitoring program. I've asked Gaby and Manrique to help me coordinate this activity.
Also Cheryl and Isabella will conduct a LP training for March 13 in Baru, Costa Rica - entirely in Spanish. We plan to have approximately 12 members from the community including elementary school teachers, members from local conservation organizations, and others who will be positions to help us monitor our local watersheds.
